Login Options

What is the difference between the various login options?
How does a partner login differ from a regular login.?
Does the email only option really work?

The EventCORE platform offers a variety of ways to "login" to the system.

What is a login?
A login is a way to uniquely and privately identify you as a specific user.  It requires some type of validation that is known only to you (memorized) or provided to you via private delivery (email or text message).

What are the login options?
We offer three types of login options:

  • Username/Password: Think of this as the traditional way that you would log in to a site.  You would create a username and password.  The username could be your email address, but it doesn't have to be.  Usernames have minimum requirements (six characters and must include a number/letter pattern).  Options for recovering passwords are provided.
  • Partner Login: A recent web trend allows individuals to use their login credentials from an associated site to provide them with access.  When this option is selected, at first use you will be asked for permission by your partner to provide basic personal details (e.g. email address, full name, address, gender, etc.).  If you are not logged in with your partner, you will be directed to do so at that time.  For subsequent visits, you will be automatically logged in if you are logged in with the partner.
  • Email Only: A unique offering on the part of eventCORE is the ability to have an "email only" login.  No separate username/password is needed.  When you need access, you simply enter your email address.  A six-digit validation code is sent to your email address.  Upon correct validation, you'll gain access to the site.

Is one method better than another?
The username/password option is better when you want to maintain a separate identity for this site and you will come back often.  A partner login is provided as a simple convenience to not have to remember a username password combination.  The email only would be a good choice if you only "once and a while" come to the site.  The bottom line is that EventCORE doesn't really care which method you choose.  It is your personal preference.

Our biggest "Best Practices" piece of advice is let the attendee decide. Don't try to steer them one way or another nor give them instructions. People don't read. The flow of EventCORE has been reached with thousands of interactions and has been designed to give the best user experience. Just because you read everything (as attested to by the fact that you got this far in this answer), don't assume they will.

The case for EMAIL ONLY
Over the years out interaction with attendees shows that many people LOVE the fact that we don't require a login to register for an event.  People are overwhelmed with trying to keep track of passwords and usernames and there is also a hesitancy to using a partner login because of the concern for how the data will be used.

The email only option solves those concerns. For many, their registration is a one and done. So there is no need to create a login.  In the event that they do need to return, they have the option of a link/validation being sent to them which will get them back in. Additioinally, their initial receipt contained that login information.

After over 10,000 registrations, we've had only a handful of people who have had issues with using the email only option and in most of those cases it's because their email client blocks unknown emails.
